As water supply in Rodrigues is scarce and problematic, a solar-powered desalination project was launched there through a call for proposals on July 10th 2017. Desalination plants do exist in Rodrigues but they are not powered by renewable energy. The novelty of this project, led by the company Quadran, is the use of solar power in order to supply these desalination plants. This technological innovation can help reduce running costs and limit CO₂ emissions. It can also work in favour of a lower power consumption and result in a positive impact on the environment.
